The real Supernanny tips: 01 Potty Training!

A new series to help parents and carers to look after their baby, toddler, pre schooler and child. First I am going to start off with a few main topics of interest. Then I am going to make mini series on different areas. Each episode will appear every fortnight on Sunday. Episode 1 is for beginner help/tips for potty training. People have written books on this subject so I will go over some of the main things to do. Also some things which I use when working in my career as a child care practitioner within a nursery setting. ******* These videos are in no way an infringment to the original 'supernanny' or attack at Jo Frost ('Supernanny'). These are only here to help parents/carers on how to care for their children in a way that is global and which can be viewed at any time. I am also working along side the people who care for children and want to make the best start in their lives :) Don't be afraid to share your tips in a comment/video response too! Please enjoy and don't forget to subscribe to view the next episodes!

Porch Gliders - The Perfect Way To Unwind

There is no better way to unwind after a hard day's work then by relaxing on a porch glider. Swaying back and forth creating a soft cooling breeze while you sip your icy lemonade; your stress just melts away. Add one to your patio decor and it may become your favorite seat in or out of the house.

The great thing about porch gliders is their versatility. You can use one on its own or as part of a seating arrangement and add some movement to your motif. Make it an intimate romantic retreat or part of the party. Place one on your patio, in the yard or alongside the pool and soak up the sun while you glide back and forth. Try putting one under a canopy of trees to cool off in the shade or in the garden for a place to sit and admire your hard work.

Expertly crafted from teak, redwood, cedar, cypress, or alder gliders vary from the classic Adirondack style to more contemporary looks and they are easy to maintain. Leave them in their natural state and watch them weather to a silver grey or treat them to maintain their original warm coloring. Choose a plastic glider and there is no maintenance. Plus you can pick a color that suits your décor. It's so easy to find one that fits your personal style. Turn the comfort level up a notch with a plush cushion for your glider. Available in bright colors and vibrant patterns you'll add a punch of personality and a touch of luxury.

All you need is some sun and you're set to enjoy the summer. That is unless you want to share your gliding comfort. Porch gliders are available in different sizes. Get one just for you or made for more. Generally a two foot glider will seat one, a four foot one will seat one person comfortably or two people well enough if they don't mind being cozy. But a five foot glider or larger is the way to go for two or more friends without invading personal space.

Choosing the perfect size, style and wood for your porch glider will be a fun-filled adventure and the easiest way to do it is by shopping online. But the fun doesn't stop once you find your perfect porch glider because then you get to put it on your patio or in your yard and enjoy the soft relaxing breeze for many summers.

You'll have made your backyard retreat complete. So open the door and settle into your sun-kissed porch glider. Your work day is over and it is time to unwind. Savor your cold drink and the gentle breeze as you take in the sights, sounds and smells of your yard and garden. You have truly made it a place that you long to be in. Whether you want to tell stories to your grandchildren by firefly light or just enjoy the glory of a sunset; porch gliders make a great addition to your patio or backyard décor.

Kindergarten For Babies - Sweden

November 2009 According to the latest findings in Primary education, children achieve more if they attend nursery from an early age. Thus, in Sweden every child from the age of one, has the right to a public kindergarten place. Recent studies contradict the notion that children should be cared for as long as possible in the family - an early nursery education rather promotes the social and intellectual abilities of children. Only those who attend nursery school at a very early stage will have a competitive edge. Says Martin. Good news for the working mothers of Sweden who are encouraged to have a full family life. For most of the women in Stockholm it is now not a question of whether they want to have a child, but rather if they want to have a third., according to working mum Katinka.

Swivel Recliner Chair - 6 Reasons Why You Should Get One

Imagine having a swivel recliner chair waiting for you when you get home after a long day at the office. You will sink gratefully onto its plush seat and raise your feet on the foot rest while you watch your favorite television show with a drink in hand. Whew! Bliss!

Enough of that. It only sounds good if you do have a recliner. But since we're on the topic of reclining chairs, why don't you get one? Here are some reasons why you should:

1) Most recliners now are automatic. You don't need to manually adjust the recliner and the foot rest to get to your preferred angle. All you have to do is push one button or two to recline or return to an upright position.

2) Some swivel reclining chair manufacturers offer additional features, like heat and massage options. Wow! That's double the pleasure! Reclining while the chair you're sitting on emits heat and massages your tight muscles.

3) You don't need to worry that it will ruin your interior decor or the theme of your living room. You can choose the color that will suit the surroundings where the chair will be parked from hundreds of options. When it comes to the skin, you can opt for leather, vinyl, fabric and other types. There are also microfiber swivel recliners if you're the sensitive type.

4) Worried about space? There really is no reason to be. Wall-hugging reclining chairs are also available. If space is a bit limited, you just need to pick one of these. They are equipped with a mechanism that allows the seat to move forward when the chair reclines. That way, you don't need to permanently occupy a bed-size space in your living room.

5) Petite? A six-footer? Heavier than 300 lbs.? No problem. Endless options are available. There are recliners that range in capacity from 300 lbs. to 600 lbs. If you need something heavier, you can purchase a Heavy Duty model which accommodates users looking for more than a 600-pound capacity. There are also tall and short-legged chairs to suit your height; and backs that correspond to the height of the user.

6) Swivels are not the only motion choice open to recliner buyers. If you are not satisfied with swiveling, choose a rocker recliner or a glider model to give you variation.

A swivel recliner chair is just one type of recliner. There are other models that cater to a buyer's preference, height, weight and space requirements. Whatever your choice might be, having this furniture in your home doesn't seem to be a bad idea.

Paragliding in Strong Wind - How to Escape to Safety and Avoid The Rotor

The day is glorious when you arrive. You step to the edge. You launch. Presently, you are high above the valley, gliding here and there, watching the other pilots drift forwards of the ridge. Clouds begin to cover the sky. You watch pilots tuck their wingtips in and head for the valley. You wonder what is going on. Then you see your shadow, far below. You are going nowhere. You are trapped! The wind is howling, pushing you back, and you drift backwards, towards the looming mountain ridge behind.

1. Get away from big obstacles

Fly upwind of any mountain as fast as you can - hands up off the brakes, and check your penetration (forward speed over ground). The glider can be accelerated in smooth air by at least 25% by pushing the speed bar. If your glider lacks a speed bar, pull down on the A and B risers (it's tiring). Some paragliders fly faster with the wingtips tucked in than with them inflated. Test that on your next flight, before you need it.

2. Get down

Wind usually increases as you get higher, especially in pre-frontal conditions, when the airflow is laminar. Quite often you can escape the wind by descending towards the ground, where the wind-speed is less. Use 'big ears' (tucking in the outer A-lines of your canopy to collapse the wingtips underneath). Do not spiral or use a B-line stall, as both of these manoeuvres will cause you to drift downwind. Narrow valley systems (like the Alps) constrict the air below, which can cause very strong valley-winds. If you are presented with a narrow valley below you, it may be best to try and slope-land, or to land near a wider part of the valley.

3. Do both

It is quite safe to tuck the ears first, then to push out on the speedbar as well. This increases your forward speed and increases your rate of descent, and the glider remains very stable.

4. Recognise that you're going over

The earlier you can do this, the better your chances of taking action. Analyse your flight path after trying the first three steps. If you are going backwards rather than forwards, and are drifting back towards the mountains, you need to make a decision. Tuck bigger 'big ears'. Is there any way in which you can safely slope-land low down on the windward side of the mountain? Better to have a windy slope-landing in constant airflow than to land in the rotor turbulence behind the mountain.

5. Up, up and away

Make the decision quickly, don't fight a glider all the way down into the compression on top of the ridge to work out you are not going to make it. Get as much height as you can in the situation. As the wind blows over the mountain, it is forced upwards in places. Wherever there is lift (cliffs), the horizontal component of the wind will be less (it's going up, not sideways), so you will have improved forward speed. You may be able to climb in the lift for some time, building up more height and safety.

6. Go for the gap!

Manoeuvre yourself towards the best-looking crossing point. Conical peaks are great when they have large drop-offs on all sides. Any area where there is a 'bite taken out of the ridge-line' will have a venturi effect and increased wind speed. These are good areas to run through, as the airflow is usually smoother - less prone to rolling rotor turbulence. Climb, climb, and as soon as you reach the top of the lift band, you must turn and run.

7. Air space

Having acquired the most height possible, you now want to increase your ground clearance. Fly at an angle across the wind, away from the peaks. Thus you avoid the worst of the rotor, and race away with the wind. As the ground falls away beneath you, you have more and more space in which to fight the beast.

8. Run

If the route is clear, run downwind. To get your best glide angle, fly off brakes but don't use the speedbar. It is more effective to stay as high as possible for as long as possible, while the wind pushes you from behind. After some time you will enter the sinking air at the back of the mountain. Be ready to catch any wobbles and thumps on the brakes. Pray.

9. Rotor!

Most paragliders are designed to stabilise, so be prudent with your brake-input. Let the glider fly, but fly actively - dampen out the wild surges, keep the wing as much above your head as possible. And keep heading downwind.

10. Touchdown

If at any point during the escape, you find yourself close to the ground, turn into wind. A downwind landing into rocks is deadly. Even into wind, the landing will be unpredictable. Neutralise your glider, by front tuck with the A-lines (which requires good timing in strong wind. Practice it on a field.) Unclip from your harness immediately after landing! Gusts of wind can tear you away down the slope, even though your landing was fine.

11. A round of applause

Whoa! You made it through! Congratulations, you've got one big story to tell the guys in the pub. I hope that this is the last time you need to go over the back, for this is one game where it is better to score a One than a Ten. Those guys that landed out in the valley earlier on? They were the real winners today.

12. A note on reserve parachutes:

You may have noticed that I have not mentioned throwing a reserve. The reserve is your last chance: you know you are going to die, so you throw your reserve. It may prevent a hard landing, although in rotor this is unlikely. But you will be dragged far and fast on the reserve, and slammed into anything in the way. It is difficult to collapse most reserves. I recommend having quick-out buckles on your harness.

5 Steps To Consider When Purchasing A Porch Glider

Following the latest trend in making outdoor spaces like indoor rooms, porch decor is a hot decorating topic these days. The porch glider is a focal point of these rooms, combining comfort and style while allowing a typical outdoor experience but with the comforts of indoor living. The porch glider has been around for a long time, and while the styles have changed over the years, their basic function has not. They are still a favorite furniture piece to include on the porch. Here are some ideas to consider when purchasing a porch glider.

1. Since a porch glider is going to need a certain amount of room to move properly for maximum enjoyment, you will need to get an accurate measurement of the porch area. Be sure to take into account how far away from the wall your glider will need to be placed. Check the clearance room all around the glider. If you will be purchasing a metal glider you will want to place it in a position where it does not receive direct sun (as heat directed on the metal will make the glider too hot to sit on).

2. For glider styles and layout ideas, visit your local home and garden centers or even discount stores like Target or Kmart. You can usually find several different models to compare and even try out. Find out when the end of season sales will begin which is a great way to pick up a wonderful glider at a substantial discount.

3. Prices can vary dramatically so it pays to shop around. Check out internet merchants as well but be sure to include the shipping fees in your price estimations. More unique and elaborate designs may only be available on the internet, depending upon where you live.

4. When comparing prices, check to see if assembly will be required. Some porch gliders are purchased already put together but others will require assembly. Be sure to ask ahead of time so you will not be surprised at delivery time.

5. There are many different materials that gliders are made of which include metal, wooden gliders made out of materials like cedar or teak, or even vintage style gliders which are really being sought after right now. In fact, some people prefer to purchase an older glider and then refinish it. This is definitely a viable option for the do-it-yourself types.

6. You might even consider purchasing a glider secondhand. Shopping at garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, or furniture consignment stores may pay off big, if you find just the glider you are looking for at a fabulous price.

What's So Special About My Front Door?

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live."

- Flora Whittemore

Your front door welcomes all to your home. This declarative statement of your house -- the exclamation point of your home -- needs to sing out your welcoming note.

First impressions are not just for guests. Generally, we do not receive as much company as we think we do. We lead such busy lives and simply do not entertain or visit friends often enough.

Decorating your home to impress others is not as important as decorating your home for your own pleasure. Create a welcoming and warm retreat in which you feel great joy just to arrive. Do you feel happy when you see your home in the distance? Does your first glimpse of home bring a smile to your face?

A problem with many new homes is that developers do not provide a separate walkway to your front door. To make yourself and your guests feel more welcome than a car, provide a separate front walkway from the street to the front door. Don't make guests walk around cars and trip on driveway edges to navigate to the entrance.

Feeling Welcome

Flowers lining the walkway provide a warm reception. Cheerful flowers in loud colors near the entry tell the world that you care about your home. Extras like water fountains, fishponds, cooing peace doves, and scented vegetation make all feel gladly received.

Sing Out the Address

Proud address numbers are bold and beautiful. Avoid tacky peel and stick numbers. Brass numbers need to have screw holes in them, not pronged ends that eventually work loose. As in the past, gold-gilded numbers look elegant on glass doors. Gold-gilded vinyl transfer numbers look especially exquisite in transom windows.

Welcoming Accessories:

Wind chimes add pleasure to our sense of hearing.

Potted plants such as soft ferns (shun unfriendly spiked plants and thorns near the doorway).

Floral baskets with bright yellow and white flowers show up better at night.

A pair of rocking chairs, a double glider, or a porch swing invites neighbors to stop and chat.

A doormat that not only saves your floors but also looks welcoming!

What Color Should I Paint My Front Door?

Unless your front door is a beautiful wood, paint it a joyful color. Your entry door should be a different color than the rest of your house. Warm happy colors include the shades of red and yellow: burgundy, claret, rust, terra cotta, deep amber, and sunny yellow. Cool happy colors of green include apple, sage, and forest green.

After spending time and effort creating a wonderful entryway into your home, use it! Why enter from the garage or back door? Treat yourself as well as you treat your guests. Come home through your welcoming front door!

Cute Baby Cheetah Cub-Cincinnati Zoo

"Nia Faye," the Cincinnati Zoo's 7-week-old, female African cheetah cub, is now on exhibit in the Zoo's nursery. She was born at the Zoo's regional cheetah breeding facility in Clermont County on July 2nd, but she had to be moved to the Zoo's Nursery after her mother, Purdy, could not provide adequate care. In an effort to get the cub back up to speed, Nursery staff bottle fed the cub six times each day until she was five weeks old. The cub is now eating meat with the help of the Nursery staff and she currently weighs six pounds.

How To Buy Indoor-Flight Model Planes

Flying models planes is a great hobby to indulge in, but sometimes you might not have so much fun especially when the weather is not conducive to allow you to fly your model outside. Due to this, you need to buy models which can also be flown indoors. Some flying clubs have aerodromes when their members can come and fly their planes. But while buying models planes which can be flown indoors, you should consider a number of factors.

First you should know which model types to go for. There are some special planes which can be flown indoors. Park flyers can also be flown indoors, but only certain docile and small models that can 'be tamed' to be flown within enclosed places like gyms, dance halls, and aerodromes. Rubber-powered planes or glider planes are also very common types of planes that can be flown indoors. Most of these planes come as kits which need to be assembled. There are some things you should know before buying these indoor gliders. First you should know that they are free flyers. This means that they lack propulsion and are not controlled by the modelers. It is important also to know that these indoor flying models are more fragile that ordinary models whether they come as ready to fly or assembled from kits.

Most indoor flying models are powered by rubber bands which is tightly wound and released to give them 'propulsion'. Other common ones are the glider and then of course there are the electric ones which are remote controlled. There are many models available in the market. Some of these models are piper cub and Fokker tri-plane models and there are other elegant designs, but which have no real life resemblance. And while buying these models, you should consider the scale. The scale you take will determine how well you will enjoy flying them and how easy it will be. 'Peanut' scale is the most popular and has a wingspan of up to 13 inches.

And if you opt for electric airplanes, always bear in mind that there is more money spent on them than on free flying types. This is because they are equipped with electric engine and need a radio device for control. It is advisable to buy the almost-ready-to-fly plane kits, since they come with all the support equipment and accessories and are cheaper than ready-to fly models. And whether you are opting for the free flying models or the electric models, it is imperative to consider joining a flying club near you. From these clubs, you can gain a lot of knowledge on how to fly and maintain your plane. The members can also give you tips on which models are good and how you can learn flying, in an enclosed place.

Lastly, remember that electric powered model planes are cheaper to buy and maintain that gas or 'wet fuel' model planes. The electric models designed for indoor flying don't have much speed and throttle power. So, chose carefully before you hit the roof!
